Acting Is A Journey Of Self Discovery

Train with Bob McAndrew. Now accepting Acting Students. Bob has worked with legendary actors. You can be one of them!

When you study acting, you’re learning a craft.

You’re developing skills, techniques, and tools that help bring a character to life. But something else happens along the way. You begin to learn about yourself. Acting is a uniquely personal art form. Unlike a painter who works with a brush or a musician who works with an instrument, an actor works with his or her own body, voice, imagination, and emotions.

The actor is the instrument. Because of this, the work often requires us to look inward. We search our own experiences, hopes, fears, joys, disappointments, and dreams to discover how we relate to the characters we portray. In the process, we gain a deeper understanding of who we are.

who are you?

I’ve often observed that students come to class believing they are simply learning how to  act. What they don’t realize is that they are also embarking on a journey of self-discovery. The more honest they become with themselves, the more truthful and compelling their performances become.

It has been said that self-expression and health go hand in hand. Personally, I believe this is true. When we freely express ourselves, we feel more connected, more alive, and more engaged with life. Acting provides a safe and creative environment in which that expression can take place. For that reason, acting training is about far more than memorizing lines or performing scenes. At its best, it helps us become more authentic human beings. And that may be one of the greatest gifts the craft has to offer.
